Snowmobile Checkpoint Conducted During Lake George Winter Carnival

Warren County, NY — Environmental Conservation Officers (ECOs) partnered with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office snowmobile unit to conduct recreational vehicle checkpoints throughout the Village of Lake George during the Lake George Winter Carnival, which ran for five weekends from February 7 through March 8.

The enforcement initiative took place on February 28 and involved ECOs Krug, Manns, Newell, and Nicols working jointly with deputies to promote safety and compliance among snowmobile and all-terrain vehicle operators during the high-traffic winter event.

During the checkpoints, officers issued a total of 24 tickets for a range of violations, including unregistered all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), unregistered and uninsured snowmobiles, failure to wear required helmets on ATVs and snowmobiles, and unlawful exhaust modifications.

In addition to issuing citations, officers assisted the Sheriff’s Office with an incident involving a snowmobile operator suspected of driving while intoxicated after the individual rolled his snowmobile in front of officers.

All tickets issued during the operation are returnable to the Town of Lake George Court. Authorities emphasized that the checkpoints were conducted to enhance public safety, ensure compliance with state regulations, and reduce the risk of accidents during one of the region’s busiest winter tourism periods.
