Step Back in Time at Lorenzo State Historic Site

Nestled in the heart of Cazenovia, Lorenzo State Historic Site offers visitors a remarkable opportunity to experience more than two centuries of New York history. Built in 1807, the elegant Federal-style mansion was the home of John Lincklaen, the Holland Land Company agent and founder of Cazenovia. The estate remained in the hands of Lincklaen's descendants for more than 160 years before the property and its original contents were entrusted to New York State in 1968.

Today, Lorenzo stands as one of the region's most authentic historic homes, preserving the stories of everyone who lived and worked on the estate. Beyond the Lincklaen family, the site's history reflects the lives of the enslaved individuals, servants, and employees whose labor helped sustain the household and grounds. Their contributions remain an important part of Lorenzo's ongoing interpretation of the past.

Visitors can explore the mansion through guided tours featuring an impressive collection of original furnishings that have remained with the home for generations. Each room offers a glimpse into daily life during the 19th century, showcasing the craftsmanship, architecture, and personal belongings that have made Lorenzo a treasured historic landmark. The final guided tour of the day begins at 4:00 p.m.
