What Visitors Should Know

The park’s enormous size can be both an advantage and a challenge. Attractions are spread out, and driving between the Red House and Quaker areas can take time. Visitors should download or carry a park map and group activities by location.

Cellular reception may be inconsistent in more isolated sections. Travelers should not depend exclusively on their phones for directions, trail navigation, or emergency communication.

Rustic cabins should also be approached as camping accommodations rather than hotel rooms. Guests may need to bring bedding, cooking supplies, towels and other essentials depending on the cabin reserved.

Wildlife, insects, rapidly changing weather and muddy trail conditions are all part of the experience. Packing bug spray, rain gear, sturdy footwear and extra food can make a major difference.

2026 Visitor Information

Allegany State Park is open year-round. The 2026 Red House tent-and-trailer season runs from May 15 through October 31, while the scheduled swimming season runs from June 20 through September 7, from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily. Select cabins and cottages are available year-round.

The seasonal vehicle-use fee listed for the Quaker Area is $7, although collection dates and fees may vary. Camping rates are generally listed between $20 and $33 per night, with additional charges for non-New York residents.
