The Herkimer County Fair Returns in 2026
2026 Fair Theme: “Celebrating America’s 250 Years!”
August 18th–23rd • Frankfort, New York
The Herkimer County Fair is gearing up for another unforgettable summer celebration in Frankfort, New York. Running Tuesday, August 18 through Sunday, August 23, 2026, this six-day community staple highlights the best of agricultural heritage, family entertainment, local talent, and classic fair fun under the theme “Celebrating America’s 250 Years!” — a fitting tribute to the nation’s historic milestone.
A Tradition of Community and Agriculture
Founded in 1841 as the Herkimer County Agricultural Society, the Fair has grown from a traveling showcase of farm excellence to a major August event on its permanent grounds on Cemetery Hill Street in Frankfort. Today’s celebration spans more than 26 acres with multiple permanent facilities, livestock arenas, show rings, and entertainment pavilions.
Fairgoers can expect the beloved agricultural roots of the event to be on full display — including dairy and beef shows, sheep and goat competitions, small animal judging, horse shows, and youth livestock events that honor both seasoned exhibitors and first-time participants.
Exciting Events and Entertainment All Week
The 2026 schedule offers something for everyone:
Opening Ceremonies & Fireworks on August 18th
Livestock Shows and Youth Challenges throughout the week
Demolition Derby and Truck Pulls
Live Music & Stage Performances including local favorites
Children’s Rides, Contests, and Family Activities
Pageants for Queen, Prince, Princess, Little Miss, and Little Mister
Detailed daily schedules include animal shows, tractor and truck pulls, children’s rodeo events, milking contests, Farmyard Olympics, and interactive youth activities.
More Than Just a Fair
Throughout the year, the fairgrounds host other community events — from fiber arts festivals to Irish cultural celebrations — ensuring the site remains a hub of engagement and regional activity beyond August.
Whether you’re coming for the animals, the entertainment, the competitions, or just the classic fair experience, the Herkimer County Fair continues to be a beloved celebration of rural life, tradition, and community pride.
